Refshaleøen, Copenhagen, Denmark

Too many buildings are bland, soulless places that don’t engage our senses nor stimulate our curiosity. Buildings ought to be engaging, life-affirming environments that engage our senses and stimulate our childlike wonder. DUO creates an experience with equal yet opposite forces. Each force needs its opposite for it is useless without the other. Creating opposite forces creates dynamic spaces to interact in and gives the building the ability to change with the seasons, with the time of day and with the different elements it might encounter. This gives the people who interact with the building a fresh new take throughout time, making it ever-changing, ensuring the ability to interact with the spaces designed. This building will be available to the public 24/7 creating a time loop through the use of its multiple programs, ensuring the building never dies. A coffee shop/bakery, an art museum dedicated to metal works (a remembrance to the ship builders who once occupied this building), and a night club. Each program opens when the other closes. The building also has public access for the pools and the main stairs, which is a structural art piece designed for public socialization.
